About the Conference

The Australian Mathematical Sciences Student Conference is an annual conference for Australian postgraduate and honours students from the mathematical sciences. The conference aims to bring students together, enable students to communicate their work, facilitate dialogue, and encourage collaboration, all within a friendly and informal atmosphere.

The conference will run for 3 days, from the 6th of December until the 8th of December, 2017.

Registration has now closed.

Talk Information

All students in attendance are encouraged to give a talk. Talks will run for 20 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for questions. Please submit talk titles and abstracts to amssc2017@gmail.com. Abstract submissions close on the 13th November! . You can still submit an abstract after this date, however it will not appear in the conference booklet.

Financial Support

Students giving a talk at this conference are eligible for the AMSI/AustMS Student Support Scheme, covering up to half of travel, registration and childcare costs. All information, including the funding rules, application deadline and application online form, can be found here.

The deadline for financial support is September 22nd, 2017!

The Australian Signals Directorate

Transportation

The easiest way to access public transport in NSW is with an Opal card. Opal cards can either be ordered online, or purchased from the Airport train station as well as most newsagents and post offices. At many train stations—including the Sydney airport station—you can also purchase single trip tickets. Check the locations here.

Sydney airport to Wollongong

Train

First take the train from the Domestic Terminal Station to Wolli Creek Station. Then change to the South Coast Line and catch the train to either Wollongong Station—which is close to the Wollongong CBD—or to North Wollongong Station—which is close to the University of Wollongong. Note that single trip tickets can be purchased at ALL of the stations mentioned above.

For getting to your accommodation we recommend disembarking at Wollongong train station and catching the free 55A and 55C buses as detailed below.

The train fare between Sydney airport and Wollongong is approximately $23 each way for a single trip ticket (Sydney airport includes a surcharge) and takes around 2 hours. More information, including timetables, can be found on the Sydney Trains website.

Airport Shuttles

Many shuttle bus companies provide transport between the airport and Wollongong. These buses usually must be pre-booked. One such service is Leisure Coast Limousine Service, but others can be found in the Yellow Pages under airport shuttle services.

Buses

There is a free bus service around the centre of Wollongong which stops at the university. The routes are numbered 55A (anticlockwise) and 55C (clockwise). They run every 10 minutes between 7am and 6pm, and run every 20 minutes between 6pm and 10pm. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes travel time from the Wollongong CBD to the university on the 55C. A route map can be found here, and real-time timetables are available through the UOW Shuttle app on iPhone and Android.

There is another free bus service (route 9N) between North Wollongong station and the University of Wollongong. This service runs every 15 minutes.

Parking

For those with cars, general parking on campus costs $9.60 per day. Coin and credit card operated ticket machines are located throughout the campus. The machines do not give change. Alternatively, street parking in the surrounding suburb of Keiraville is free, however some areas are only 2 hour parking.

Taxis

Taxis in Wollongong may be booked by calling 131 008.

Walking

For those who prefer to travel by foot, the University of Wollongong main campus is approximately a 45 minute walk from the Wollongong CBD.
