Chapter 14 DE6: An Application of Second Order Linear DEs with Constant Coefficients
Recall that for a function \(y=y(x)\) a 2nd order linear DE with constant coefficients is a DE of the form
\begin{equation*}
ay''+by'+cy=f(x)
\end{equation*}
In previous lectures (i.e. ChapterĀ 12 and ChapterĀ 13) we discussed how to find solutions to DEs of this form (for various possibilities of \(f(x)\) at least). In this lecture we are going to discuss an application of this type of DE to modelling the vibrations of springs.
